KNOWING WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW
The owner of a medium-large local home service provider emailed me a couple of years ago to request a meeting to discuss media buying for his company. Because I had worked in the local advertising industry for more than two decades, I knew that his company had been a consistent television and radio advertiser for at least the last 10 years and I was eager to meet with him.
When we sat down he told me that for the past year he had been personally managing his company’s media buying and advertising strategy after dismissing a well-known advertising agency. He further explained that after a year of doing it himself, he knew his advertising should be working better and there was too much he didn’t know about media buying to be doing the job effectively.
After he showed me in detail what his media plan and creative strategy had been it was clear to me he was right. His media plan and creative strategy had veered off the tracks. I proposed a new plan for both his media mix and his creative strategy and he hired me to implement the plan.
Less than two weeks after his new creative had been running on a new mix of media and stations, he sent me an email that said he had already received more response from his ads than he had received over the past two years.
I can’t promise that dramatic an improvement in advertising response to all the businesses who hire me, but with more than two decades of experience in the Austin advertising business, I can give you a knowledgeable review of your current advertising.
